Nurses’ agitation: CPM accuses Maharashtra govt of crushing stir
Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM Saturday alleged that the Maharashtra government, instead of conceding to the "justifiable" demands of agitating nurses of a local hospital, is "crushing" their stir.
CPM Politburo member and Kerala state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan sought the Centre's intervention in resolving the issues raised by nurses at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai.
In a statement here, Vijayan criticised the Maharashtra government for "crushing" the nurses' agitation.
The stir was prompted by the suicide of a nurse from Kerala due to alleged harrassment at work.
More than 200 nurses and medical staff had come out to protest the "bond" rule and demanded better wages.
Vijayan said the Maharashtra government, instead of approving the nurses' demands, was taking steps to "help the management of the institute".
The CPM wants all sections of people to back the agitation, he said.
