e-Chip in soap spreads panic in Beemappalli
Some residents of Beemapalli near here have lodged a police complaint after they spotted an electronic chip planted inside the soaps they used to bathe.
The company representatives however claimed that the chip was inserted as part of a behavioural survey to study individual hygiene.
Similar panic was created in Mangalore after people of a village near Bajpe found a chip in their toilet soaps. Wild rumours of the chip being a bomb or a spy cam for making blue films spread creating much distress.
Multinational company Hindustan Lever Limited later clarified that the chips were inserted as part of a survey to study children’s health in connection with the use of Lifebuoy soap.
This motion sensor chip inside the soap helps the company to determine the actual soap usage by people.
