Back in the days of DOS, CON was a command that send output to the console (monitor). If the word "con" appears as file name, Windows could interpret it as a DOS command and attempt to send that file to the monitor, crashing Windows and the entire PC and causing data loss and perhaps damaging the Windows files themselves. So to prevent damage to the computer, files can not be named "con" or any other word that is a DOS command.
