    Upcoming Cars in India

    Renault Duster

    When to expect: Jun 2012

    Estimated Price: Rs.7-9 lakhs

    Renault Duster Review
The Dacia/Renault Duster is a funky looking SUV and one of the cheapest in the world. In India, the price of this car will lie between 6.5 and 7 lakh. The Duster is not a soft-roader; it manages to hold its own off-road quite well. The 210mm of ground clearance and chunky 215/65 R16 tyres complete the SUV image.

The Duster is offered with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. The 4x4 variants make use of Nissan's all-wheel drive system which allows the driver to choose from three different driving modes: Auto, in which the front/rear torque split is calculated automatically as a function of available grip; Lock, whereby 50 per cent of torque is consistently fed through the rear axle, and 4x2 where the transmission is locked into two-wheel drive for maximum fuel efficiency.

The Duster will be available with a 1.6-litre, 105PS petrol or the familiar 1.5-litre turbocharged common-rail diesel that will offer either 85 or 110PS. Size-wise, the Duster is a little smaller than the Mahindra Scorpio and will seat five in comfort.

The Duster has found a niche and promises to deliver on all it is promising. Will it succeed in making Renault a renowned brand like the Scorpio managed to do for Mahindra?

    Audi Q3

    Expected Launch: Jun 2012

    Expected Price: Rs. 20-30 lakhs

    Audi Q3 Review
The BMW X1 has opened up a new luxury segment in India and the Q3 plans to occupy that space along with the X1. The Q3 is a five seater compact SUV in much the same vein as the X1, but it promises a little more space than the Munich competitor. Underneath the fancy bodywork the Q3 is a Volkswagen Tiguan, which isn't a bad base to have. In India the Q3 will have a choice of a 2.0 TFSI petrol or 2.0 TDI engines. The challenge for Audi is to price the Q3 around the Rs 25 lakh mark. If this is achieved the BMW X1 will have serious competition - as will most of the upper C-segment sedans and SUVs that retail around the same price from manufacturers not considered competition so far.

      Tata Manza CS

      When to expect: Jun 2012

      Estimated Price: Rs.5.50-7.50 lakhs

      Tata Manza CS Review
Tata Motors has been expanding its range by adding more variants to its current portfolio. One of these variants is a compact version of its Manza that can tempt buyers of the top-end Vista to opt for more rear legroom and a larger boot. It will even attract Manza customers who want a cheaper variant of the Manza to shift to a more feature-rich version of the Manza CS, since the Manza CS will take full advantage of the duty cut for cars less than 4 metres long. The Manza CS is likely to be powered by the same 1.4-litre SAFIRE and 1.3-litre Quadrajet engines as the current Manza and is expected to go on sale in mid 2012.

      Specs (Speculated)

Engine: 1.4-litre petrol engine, 1.3-litre common rail diesel enginePower: 90bhp, 93bhp

        Chevrolet Sail Hatch

        Expected Launch: Jun 2012

        Expected Price: Rs. 5-7 lakh

        Chevrolet Sail Hatch Review
The Chevrolet Sail hatch is the replacement for the competent but outdated Aveo U-VA, and will fit, price-wise, between the Beat and the upcoming Sail sedan. It shares its platform with the sedan and even has an identical wheelbase – this means that interior space will be on par with the sedan. The differences will be in the trim levels. Power will be derived from a 1.2-litre petrol with 85PS. A diesel will be required as well, so GM will either use the Beat’s 1.0-litre in a slightly higher state of tune or use a new powerplant. The latter is highly unlikely, as GM will have to meet tough price targets if they are to rack up the numbers with the Sail. However, if they do choose to use a new engine, expect a four-cylinder displacing less than 1.5-litres that will be shared with the sedan, but in a lower power output for greater fuel efficiency.
