You'll need it, though. The GL is so large, planning permission is required to park it and it weighs 2,550kg. Still, the engine provides huge amounts of thrust, so when you floor it, the car really squats down at the rear on its standard air suspension and fires up the road. This is by no means a slow car.
More than that, though, it's also extremely refined. Combine all that with a comfy chassis and the GL is an accomplished cruiser. The problem is that it's ?63,075, which seems expensive but is also right on the money for the equivalent Range Rover. Foreign exotica like this doesn't come cheap
