THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government issued an order banning spitting in public places in view of the serious health problems it causes to the public.
The order was issued on the directive of the state High Court.
An official press release said diseases like influenza, TB, relapsing fever, diphteria and endemic fever could be caused by spitting and sneezing in public places and offices.
The unhealthy practice also created revulsion in tourists, it said adding spitoons would be installed in select places and the office premises.
